Ellen's Family

Karl August's daughter, Ellen Augusta Nye married Andrew Joseph Mathews and had 5 children, Shirley, Marjorie, Andrew "Bud", Nancy & Connie.

Ellen's daughter, Marjorie, married Howard William Fisher and had 3 chilren, Anne, Peggy & John.

The above two pictures are of Marjorie Joyce Mathews.

Marjorie's chilren are: Anne Hathaway, Peggy Louise & John Howard Fisher.

Peggy & I bought land that is part of Karl August's farm. I built a house there in 2004. This is Peggy standing next to a rock on my property.

Karl August & Tena Nye attended the Presbyterian Church in Hessel.

On 27 September 2008 their great great granddaughter, Elizabeth Kmieciak, married Michael Lorrenz at that church.

When Ellen & her three youngest children moved to Hessel, they rejoined the Presbyterian Church.

Ellen Nye left home at the age of 14. She moved to St Ignace and worked as a waitress. At the age of 17 she moved to Detroit where she worked as a telephone operator. Ellen met Andrew Joseph Mathews who was from Sugar Notch, Pennsylvania.

Ellen and Andrew married in 1924 in Detroit. They had 5 children all born in Detroit. In 1948 the day before their daughter, Marjorie, got married, their house burned down. Ellen and Andrew had bought a house, in Hessel, and they planned on moving there when Andrew retired.

Ellen and her three young children moved to Hessel. Andrew and the two older daughters remained in Detroit. The two older daughters were married and Andrew had to work for two more years. After Andrew retired he moved to Hessel.
